Oakford - Wheddon Cross Section:
A twisting A-road for 13miles, as the A396 follows the tight valley of the River Exe.
The first thing I would mention is the road quality: the top surface is going, so you find lots of patches of loose gravel in the centre of the lanes. I ran this in January, so it may be a little better in the summer with more traffic on the roads sweeping it clean more often. I wouldnt bank on it though.
Assuming the road is better in the summer, I can see this being a great ride for a supermoto or similar. Really it was a bit tight for a sports bike, although it mightve been fun enough were it not for the loose surface. It does open out at the northern end of the run too.
Its also under trees most of the way, so bare that in mind in the winter, after rain or during the autumn...
Its certainly a very pretty ride though. And I saw not a single car on it at 1oclock on a Saturday (January...I imagine there will be tourist traffic in the summer).
